More Car Insurance Tips
Here are a few more car insurance tips, and things which you need to be aware of. Just because you’re a fully paid up and upstanding member of society, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the person who crashes into you is . . .
- Car Insurance on the Internet – when you’re searching for car insurance on the internet (which, incidentally is a great place to start, especially with all of these fantastic comparison sites), you must check that the website you’re on is secure. There should be a little “lock” icon, and check that the URL starts with “https:” – if you’re a little unsure make sure that you do not provide any of your personal information.
- Car Insurance Door to Door – always be a little suspicious of people trying to sell car insurance door to door, or over the telephone for that matter. These practises are becoming more and more frowned upon these days and you never really know who to trust. Don’t open your door to strangers until you’ve at least checked out their ID through the peephole.
- After an Accident – always make sure that you report it to the police as soon as possible. Some strangers may act suspiciously after an accident, offering you a little “quick cash” or recommending a certain repair shop, mechanic or health care provider. Tell the police, the chances are that they don’t have the correct, or indeed any insurance whatsoever. Do things by the book and you won’t be able to get yourself into any trouble.
- Insurance Identification Numbers should never be given out “willy nilly” to companies you don’t know. Be suspicious if they ask for them.
- Take Photos – it’s a good idea to always carry a disposable camera in your car (pop it in the glovebox and foreget about it until it’s needed). Of course, these days many people have cameras on their cell phones, but just in case keep a camera handy so that you can take photos of any damage immediately after it has happened. You also need to remember to keep a pen and paper handy so that you can take down the contact details of everyone involved in an accident, plus vital witnesses. Jotting down the names, telephone numbers and license details is absolutely essential.
